The preparation and coordination conference for the 2019 China’s Space Day was held in Changsha on February 25, 2019. Hunan Governor Xu Dazhe met with representatives of the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defence (SASTIND) before the meeting.

Vice Governor Wu Guiying and SASTIND Vice Minister Wu Yanhua also attended.

China designated April 24 as Space Day in 2016 to mark the anniversary of the country’s first satellite launch in 1970. This year's major events will be held in Changsha. It is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the SASTIND, the China National Space Administration, and the Hunan Provincial People's Government. The China Aerospace Conference; UN conferences; science popularization and education activities; and cultural and creative activities will also be held simultaneously.

Governor Xu said, “This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. It is of great significance to host the ‘China’s Space Day’ activities in Hunan, the hometown of the founding leader, Chairman Mao Zedong. Hunan has taken aviation and aerospace as an important part of the manufacturing powerhouse construction, and the in-depth development of civil-military integration. We have achieved fruitful results thanks to the guidance and support of MIIT and SASTIND.”

He expected that, through holding these events, Hunan will promote international cooperation in the aerospace industry, and foster innovative spirit and entrepreneurship among the whole society, especially the youth. This will infuse dynamism into high-quality development. The Hunan government will strengthen coordination, clarify themes, embody characteristics, highlight effectiveness, and make good publicity. “We will strive to make the Space Day into a good window to display China's aerospace image, and establish a new platform for exchanges and cooperation in the aerospace field,” he added.
